Security document paper – the first anti-counterfeiting element
Document conterfeiting is a form of fraud, the ultimate goal being the theft of information. To counterfeit means to imitate, to make false replicas of the original product.
Counterfeiting in widespread in the field of value documents, banknotes, clothing, footwear, pharmaceuticals, auto parts, electronics, watches, works of art, etc. Counterfeit products have an inferior quality and they violate copyright and patent claims.
Which are our solutions?
To fight against counterfeiting phenomenon, increasingly sophisticated securing technologies have been developed and implemented to make reproduction impossible, while counterfeiters have no access to them. In the case of important documents, an essential element is the printed media – security document paper.
This security document paper can have many features embedded, such as:
- Blend of various cellulosic wood fibers, annual plants, technical plants, textile fibers, etc;
- Watermark;
- Security threads;
- Security fibers;
- Dots, planchettes, pigments with UV or IR emission;
There are known technical solutions for making this kind of paper whose security elements are:
• Embedded into
print media;
• applied to the print media;
• Designed and printed.
Embedding the security elements into the paper during the manufacturing process is almost impossible to counterfeit. There are currently known two types of printed media: security paper with or without watermark and special polymeric media.
Several types of security elements can be embedded – open, semi-open or closed. Semi-open or open items include, in case of paper use, watermark, security thread, security fibers, or in case of polymeric media, transparent window, embosing elemnt or watermark image.
Conclusions
On the market, in the area of classified / confidential documents, there is an old interes in protecting these kind of papers against unauthorized removal, copying, scanning or destruction.
For this, various solutions have been tried over time, but in this area, research continues. Methods are getting better every day and a huge effort is needed to counter attacks by counterfeiters. Regardless of what secure documents are about, the paper on which they are printed is the most important. Secure methods can be combined for greater efficiency, so falsification is at least extremely difficult, if not impossible.
